Freeview HDTV

Feeview HDTV is almost on us all, here in the UK, who will win the battle this time around will it be Freeview HDTV, Freesat HDTV or Sky HDTV? For a typical consumer, choosing among these three HDTVs for their tv unit may become a daunting task. Anyone would of course want to have the one that will give the best value for their money. This article aims to assist you in choosing the right HDTV for you and your home.

Let’s explore the options further shall we?

Freeview HDTV (DVB-T2) is set to be ready to go to the market place around the beginning of April 2010 but right away users will either have to buy a new HD Digital Box as current HD TV’s sold on these shores dont have the MPEG 4 Decoders required to view these new HD Freeview signals!

This news will be a massive shock to many millions of customers who forked out huge sums of money buying new flatscreen TV’s thinking thery were future proofing their investments in what was tough times only to be told no you need another type of box or HDTV to watch true HD Signals through your normal digital type ariel, confused? Your not alone, so will many others!

Then there is the competition in the form of either Sky HD and Freesat HD, lets start with Sky TV, Sky TV has just started rolling out free HD SUPERTELLY Boxes, this is not Sky TV suddenly becoming super generous this is Sky throwing down the guantlet to both Feeview HD and Freesat HD in one clever swift marketing ploy.

What Sky TV is trying to do is blanket the market with HD Ready Boxes so when Freeview HDYV sets sail Sky TV will just switch on your HD from Standard definition of the current SKY digital boxes but heres the rub straight away both Freeview HD and Freesat HD will be subscription FREE where as sky will want users to pay £10 per month per box and if current users dont take the HD Package right now Sky wants a up front fee for the so called free HD boxes of around £80-199 plus some set up fees wich will not work out to be a cheap option.

Freeview HDTV Cost’s?

Just like Freesat TV you will need to purchase a stand alone box to decode the said HD signal the only other difference will be that both Freesat and Sky TV needs a satellite dish to collect the HD signals where as Freeview HD TV will be by standard digital house ariels and not a sat dish.

We expect Freeview HDTV to have prices on par with Freesat TV currently boxes are available from £49-180 but this is in the form of a one off fee with no more subs ever so over the long term both Freeview and Freesat maybe clear winners here?

Bad news on the 10th of Februrary 2010, Toshiba released details of their own Freeview HD PVR Box with 500 Gb HardDrive built-in recorder but the price of £350 retail is far to high a price point for many as its the same price point of toshiba’s very good high end SD Freeview LCD HDTV’s.

In comparison Humax overs the same sort of deal via satellite for 50% less and there is a few more manufaturers as well to chose from using the Sky/freesat dish solutions!

Who will make these new DVB-T2 Freeview HD boxes?

Pace Micro and now Toshiba has already stated they are in this new game as a main player and other
manufacturers planning DVB-T2 equipment launches include CellMetric, Cisco, Digital TV Labs, Humax, NXP Semiconductors, Panasonic, ProTelevision Technologies, Screen Service, SIDSA, Sony, ST Microelectronics and T-VIPS although only some of these will be in the UK market as Europe will also enjoy HDTV for free in other EU Countries.

This sure to be an exciting time for future HDTV Channels in the UK and now that DVB-T2 is almost here we will keep you fully updated with the latest Freeview News and information on Freeview HD Television Developments and related matters.
