HD Ready TV

HD ready is one of the European Information, Communications and Consumer Electronics Technology Industry Association (EICTA) in early 2005 created labels for appliances, the high-definition television (HDTV) formats. The “HD ready” logo is currently the only vendor stamp in Europe, the minimum configuration for HDTV equipment identifies one.

Self-certification

It will not review whether to keep the manufacturers on the required specifications. It is therefore consistent with any independent seal of approval, but relies on self-regulation of the manufacturer and the customer and the trade press. The “HD ready” label has no official or legal status. There have already noticed several manufacturers and distributors to provide the devices with the “HD ready” logo, which do not meet the required minimum standards.

Variant “HD ready 1080p”

EICTA on 30 August 2007 introduced an additional label. The new logo represents the “HD ready” logo, and was a third line that says “1080p” added to. Many manufacturers had their own labels such as “Full HD” was introduced, but since there is no, according to the EICTA “HD” is (full would be a finite term), it was called” HD ready 1080p “.

A manufacturer may provide a display device with the “HD ready 1080p” logo, if it

  • the requirements of the “HD ready” label and also met
  • has a native 16:9 resolution of at least 1080 lines and 1920 columns,
  • via the digital inputs in addition the format of frames of 1920 × 1080 pixels (1080p) with 50, 60 and 24 Hertz in addition also accepted and
  • via the digital inputs a mode offering 1080p pictures pixel display which, without the analog relic of the overscandisplay.

Quality [edit]

Most currently sold devices with “HD ready” label are WXGA-liquid crystal displays (LCDs) with resolutions of 1280 × 720 or 1368 ± 8 × 768 pixels at 60 frames per second, the signals in the interlaced (576i, 1080i) converted only need .

The quality of this necessary deinterlacer is of “HD ready” not defined and neither for nor for the 1080i SDTVresolutions 576i50 , and 480i60. Some critics think that this should have happened, since many devices to reveal weaknesses here. However, this would require extensive and subjective test methods that are not easy either meets all other criteria as are verifiable or not.

Support for full screen signals with 1080 lines (1080p) and kinotypischen 24 Hz or 25 Hz is not explicitly required (see also “Full HD Ready”[2]). It exists with progressive with segmented frames (PSF) , although one to 1080i compatible process to a full-screen fields with the same time index to transfer two as, but for the presentation of the logo is a recognition of this procedure based on progressive display devices, only the simplest form of Deinterlacing (Weaving) is needed, also not a requirement, so that some compliant devices perform interpolations could unnecessarily expensive, the quality will improve rather than diminish.
